Publications

type of publications

All publications have been hand-set in letterpress or wooden letters or a combination. Nearly all publications are sewn and provided with a strong binding. The sewing is usually done by Carolien Verdam, Corinna Kramer or Leontien Kramer. A few have hardcovers and slipcases. Professional handbinders having worked for Mercator Press include David Simileavich, formerly in Amsterdam, and Erik Schots, at Krommenie. Most publications contain illustrations, some of them greatly enhancing the artistic value. See also the chapter Information.

new publication

To be published at the end of 2002 is a large book of sculptures by the Anonymous Sculptor of Amsterdam. They can be considered the best loved public sculptures in the city, such as The Little Tree Cutter at Leidse Bosje, The Breast in Oude Kerksplein and The Violinist trying to Catch the 10-Train at Marnixstraat opposite Bloemgracht. In this folio-sized book marvellous photographs of the sculptures taken by Wout Berger face texts supplied by such luminaries as Louis Andriessen, Geert Mak, Toon Tellegen and Menno Wigman. The texts are hand-set in 14pt. Garamont and printed on Somerset velvet white paper 250 gr.
